Steve 'Raisin' Kane First Officer - SCRC Space Coast Chapter 122 Sunday, November 30. 2008Sugarloaf Ride Report
Saturday's ride was a run out west to the hill country of south Lake county. We had a hankerin' for the hills and curves around Sugarloaf Mtn (nothing gets the blood rushin like the feel of a right-hand twistie coming off a 30-degree grade, downshiftin', pegs scrapin', throttle on, into the next one, o'boy let's do that again!). Not many places to do that here in the flat land so we enjoy it when we can.
The run over had us cruising west on Hwy 46, through Sanford on Celery, then around the lake and up Orange Ave. to miss the traffic. From there, we ran the teaser twisties on 435 on the way over and had a great lunch at the Oakwood Grill in Okahumpka (south Leesburg). After some great BBQ, it was just a short run over to the hills and once up on the ridge, we stopped for a photo op. As we were basking in the glow of that magnificent sight, some other riders out enjoying the crisp fall day pulled up. The beautiful thing about riding is that no matter where you go, there'll always be someone with the same passion for riding we all have. It's real easy to strike up a conversation and share stories so we had a nice chat. Since it was a nice, clear day, we all enjoyed the view out across Lake Apopka. You could even see the top of the Sun Trust building in downtown Orlando! At that point, we said sayonora to the 'Wingers and it was time to head on back to the Space Coast. The route back took us out through Longwood, Winter Springs, Oviedo, and the Fort Christmas area before we split up at Taylor Creek Rd in Christmas. Half the group headed south and west and the other half headed on into Titusville. The days are gettin' shorter now and the sun was just heading down as we pulled into the hacienda. Another great day of running the highways and byways of Central Florida with the fine folks who make the Space Coast chapter the great riding club that it is! Thank you all for coming along, we sure enjoyed the ride! 'Till the next one, Y'all be Safe! Steve 'Raisin' Kane SCRC Space Coast Chapter 122 First Officer Sunday, November 23. 2008Chapter Ride - Sat. Nov 29th Sugarloaf Mtn
Greetings Cruisers! Linda and I want to take a moment and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as we all enjoy a day with friends and family and reflect on the many blessings we enjoy.
It's been awhile since we've been out and about, the wedding's behind us now and we're feeling frisky so let's head out to some of the best riding in these parts, the back roads around Sugarloaf Mtn. Meet at McDonald's Saturday Nov 29th, US 1 just north of Hwy 50 in Titusville at 8:00 and we'll head out around 8:30 for a trip out west. You can all still enjoy the shopping on Black Friday and you can leave the chores 'till Sun. Let's get out and enjoy a crisp fall Florida day! Lunch will be at the Oakwood Grill in Okahumpka http://www.oakwoodsmokehouse.com/. Hope to see you then! Steve Raisin' Kane SCRC Space Coast Chapter 122 First Officer http://spacecoastscrc.com/ Sunday, November 9. 2008Sun 11-9 Dotties for Breakfast
Sunday was beautiful weather, six bikes and eight riders showed up for breakfast at Dotties in Palm Bay. Would've liked to have ridden more but had to get on back to T'ville and get some chores done. Food was good though and company was even better, glad you all came out. Watch the website for the next one, after Turkey Day we're making a run to Sugarloaf Mtn. It will be the Sat. after Thanksgiving. Y'all need to start thinking about your favorite Xmas light spot too. Christmas will be here before we know it and we'd like to incorporate the "Best of Brevard" into a night ride the second week of Dec. Let me know your favorites and we'll see what we can come up with!
Till then, Ride Safe! Steve Raisin' Kane - SCRC FL Chapt. 122 First Off. Wednesday, November 5. 2008Sunday 11-9 Dotties for Breakfast
Hey Cruisers, looks like Sunday is going to be a nice day to be out so we're heading south. All you south county cruisers can sleep in a bit as we'll be coming your way. If you are north county, meet at the US 1 McDonald's in Titusville at 7:30 and we'll head down. We'll make a quick stop at the Citgo, US 1 and Post Road in Melbourne about 8:15 - 8:30. Dottie's is expecting us around 9:00 (I hooked up the back room) so we'll head out promptly for the ride down. The address is 5275 Babcock in Palm Bay (just south of Port Malabar Blvd NE) in the event you just want to hook up there.
C'mon out and enjoy some good vittles and some good riding weather! We'll discuss riding plans there, but for those that want the organized ride, The March of Dimes Bikers for Babies run is also on Sunday out of Space Coast Harley Davidson. Registration starts at 8:30 and the first bike out is at 11:00. $35/bike and $10/passenger. 'Till then, Ride Safe! Steve Raisin' Kane SCRC Space Coast 122 First Officer Wednesday, October 29. 2008Sat Nov 1 Marsh Landing Fellsmere Ride
Hi Cruisers,
Lets head to Marsh Landing in Fellsmere for lunch then over to A1A and back up the coast. Meet at the Shell station at I95 and 520 at 8:30 depart at 9:00 Should be about 175 miles Have a Great Day Bob Kurtz Second Officer - Florida Space Coast Chapter 122 Southern Cruisers Riding Club Tuesday, October 21. 2008Biketoberfest Ride Report
Another Biketoberfest in the record books! The weather really cooperated and for those that were able to enjoy multiple trips, I'm sure you had a good time. We managed a trip up on the final day Sun. and several Cruisers took advantage of the mild weather to ride on up with us. Thanks to all of you who went with us especially you folks coming up from down south! We had a great time even though it's impossible to take it all in in just one day! We were able to enjoy the tree "tunnel" out through the 'Loop" and after a brief stop on Beach St. where we didn't see much happening, we skipped over the bridge to Main St. and saw the party was in full swing! The deals were pretty sweet, the scenery was interesting to say the least, and after a bit we headed on over to the Speedway. More good deals were had, some riders took advantage of the open Speedway "tunnel", and one rider in particular has a new cushy seat to take the pressure off on those loooong runs, right Lara?
After wringing what we could out of the speedway, the day was winding down so we all elected to head on back to the Space Coast. A distinct smell of rain met us we headed out of Edgewater but the gods were smiling and we remained dry all the way back. Great ride guys, we really enjoyed it! 'Til next time, Ride Safe! Steve 'Raisin' Kane - SCRC Space Coast First Officer Tuesday, October 14. 2008Biketoberfest This Weekend
Hello Cruisers! Biketoberfest will be in full swing this Thurs. 10/16 and by now you've probably felt the weather cooling off and seen the uptick in the number of motorcycles on the road. Makes your mouth just water to bust out the chaps and vest and hit the highway for points north don't it!! Well, Linda and I are still in the midst of wedding plans for our daughter and won't be able to make the run up until Sun. There's lots to do, from the vendors for Goldwings at New Smyrna airport and Sunshine Plaza in South Daytona, the standard Harley vendor fare at Millers Custom Parts and Beach Street, of course there's also Main Street, the goings on at the speedway, and who could forget The Iron Horse and Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach! Lots to do and there will be lots of company to do it with! Just remember, a lot of these folks don't ride year-round like we do so be alert and be safe! If you aren't all partied out by then and want one last run to get the good deals, meet up at McDonald's on US 1 in Titusville Sun. morning at 8:30 and we'll leave out about 9:00 for the run up. We'll tour the hot spots and see what's left, probably returning to Brevard around late afternoon.
Hope to see you then, but if not have fun and remember, stay alert and watch yourselves out there! Steve "Raisin" Kane - SCRC Space Coast First Officer Wednesday, October 1. 2008No Rides This Weekend
Cruisers,
No ride scheduled this weekend, we're busy with wedding stuff and Bob and Wendy are out of town so watch the website for upcoming rides. For those interested in heading south, Run to the Heartland is this weekend in Sebring. There is a Southern Cruisers photo op at the town square at noon Sat. If you've never been, it's a nice ride and a good time. If you're going and want some company, let me know where you are leaving from and I'll post it in the event others want to ride along. Till the next one, Ride Safe! Steve 'Raisin' Kane Tuesday, September 30. 2008Sunday 9-28 Marion County Backroads
Sunday turned out to be a wonderful day for a ride. 8 bikes and 11 riders set out from Titusville for a run out through the Deland backroads to Hwy 42 and over through Altoona for a brief break. Out of Altoona the route took us up into the Ocala forest to Moss Landing as we worked our way through some nice backroad cruising to Gator Joe's for the lunch break. The place appeared busy based on the number of bikes in the parking lot but it wasn't bad inside so we headed on in and grabbed some grub. The service left a bit to be desired as they didn't seem too excited about having customers interrupt their morning break but we got through the meal anyway before cruising the dock and watching Bob H. cavort with a pretty lifeless replica of ole' Gator Joe on the beach outside. Good gator wrestling Bob! I think you gave him a good go of it! The ride back brought us out of the forest and to a brief stop in Eustis before heading up to Umatilla to brave Thrill Hill on our way back to the last stop of the day in Geneva. Over the river (Ocklawaha), through the woods (Ocala forest), and even though we didn't make it to Grandma's house, we did see our old friend Gator Joe. Good people, good roads, and good weather for motorcycle riding! It just doesn't get any better than that! 197 miles on the day and we'll be looking forward to the next time we can get out and cruise the highways and byways of Central Florida.
'Til then, Be Safe! Steve 'Raisin' Kane SCRC Space Coast First Officer Tuesday, September 23. 2008This Week's Ride - Sunday Sept. 28th - Ocala Forest
Looks like this weekend will be a good one for riding so let's head up to the forest Sunday for a little back to nature ridin'. Meet at McDonald's in Titusville at 8:00 and we'll leave at 8:30 for the run out through the Lake and Marion County back roads. Lunch will be at Gator Joe's on Lake Weir.
Hope to see you then! Steve 'Raisin' Kane SCRC Space Coast First Officer http://www.spacecoastscrc.com Sunday, September 21. 2008Destination Daytona Ride Report- at Sept 20
We left the McD's in Titusville and headed up Rt 1 into dark skies and found some rain in Mims, but that wasn't for long but there was still some in the area and by the time we got to Oak Hill where the plan had been to go across the Osteen-Mayfield rd to 415 was changed due to the look of rain that way. So we went up Rt1 to Nova rd where we had a very long light at 92 because of the Obama Motorcade coming down 92, where as we decided to make a stop at the Harbour Freight store and picked up some bargain tools and accesories. Then off to Destination Daytona and shops, J&P cycle supplied us with a free lunch of hot dogs and drinks. When we came out of Bruce's HD it was raining there so on with the rain gear and back down Rt 1 by the time we got to south Daytona it was dry. So off to the Banana Split Republic for some good home made Ice Cream and get out of the hot rain suits.
It was dry and beautiful the rest of the way home. Ride mileage 125 Might not ride next week, unknown yet, we've got a plan to take in the Brevard Resident Free Weekend at KSC Check it out at: http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/pressRoom/pressRoomDetails.asp?pressId=96 Bob Wednesday, September 17. 2008Sat Sept 20, Destination Daytona

Crabby Bills was a fairly new place next to a very nice park with a sandy beach on East Lake Topo, the food and service was excellent, definitely coming back there again.
