Monday, March 8. 2010Daytona Ride Report and Upcoming Activities
The weather finally cooperated Sat. and even a bit of cold start quickly turned into a great day for riding! Felt good to be back on two wheels after three months and except for mistakenly leaving a key piece of walking assistance at the house, the day turned out pretty good! Ten bikes made the run up from the Space Coast and the venues around Daytona were busy, but not so busy we couldn't move around. It's hard to do Bike Week in a day so after a strategy session, we opted for a run up Peninsula Drive to miss the US 1 traffic, hung out on Main St. for a time watching the crazies, scooted on over the 192 causeway to Beach St., walked the vendors, said hi to Vinnie (ex-Orange County Choppers) then headed out to Sunshine Plaza for the last stop of the day before heading back south. Great destination, great friends, thanks for making this such a good day! 125 miles in the bank and 'till next time,
Ride Safe! Steve "Raisin" Kane - SCRC Space Coast 1st P.S. stay tuned for details on the next overnighter, Savannah in May! Old Hwy 17's a great ride! Wednesday, March 3. 2010This Week's Ride - Bike Week - Sat. March 6th
OK, let's try this again. We'll meet up at 10:00 a.m. Sat at McDonald's, US 1 in Titusville and head out at 10:30 for the run up. Temps will be in the high '50's so dress accordingly!
First Officer Steve Saturday, February 27. 2010Ride to Bike Week Sun. Cancelled
OK Cruisers, based on the projected outlook for the weather tomorrow, we're going to cancel. Not much fun riding when the temps are in the 50's so let's regroup for next week. I'll send something out later about the meet-up, again depending on how the weather's looking. I was optimistic it was going to warm up some but it doesn't look like it now. This's gotta suck for all the vendors, they depend on these events to make a living.
'Till next time, Be safe! Steve Thursday, February 25. 2010Sunday 2-28 - Bike Week
Cruisers - Gotta work Sat. but anyone who's interested in heading up to Bike Week Sun. meet at the Titusville McDonalds @ 9:00 am and we'll head up around 9:30. Several places to check out, we'll hit as many as we can.
Hope to see you there! Steve Raisin' Kane SCRC FL Space Coast Chapter 122 First Officer Tuesday, February 23. 2010Chapter Dinner - Chaparral Grill - Thurs. 2-18-10
Great turnout this past Thurs, at Chaparral Mexican Grill in Cocoa for the Feb. Chapter Dinner! It was really good to see everyone again! We've been out of touch over the past couple of months and it was really cool to see Cruisers visiting, enjoying a good meal (well some at least...others could only watch and wait), and we welcomed new members Roy and Barbara Lewis, welcome aboard you two!
Now, this First Officer is still humbled and much appreciative for the great gift that was presented by Bob Heinz. It is a really cool book full of information on USA scenic roads and believe me, we will make use of it as we cruise the western states this summer! Thank you very much! You all are the reason we really enjoy doing what we do! The 50/50 drawing was won by the couple who travelled the farthest, Ray and Donna Thibault came all the way over from St. Cloud for the evening and picked up $35.00 which should help defray expenses somewhat, right guys! Between the 50/50 and the Super Bowl, not too bad! Good job! I missed an opportunity at dinner to recognize some of our own for the great job they've been doing. I've just gotta give a shout out to 2nd Officer Bob Kurtz and wife Wendy for keeping things going while we were off the road! Thank you guys! Now some of you have been travelling, some have been out riding, (we've kind of been sitting home), and some have just been waiting for warmer weather to creep back in but after such a challenging winter I think we're finally coming out the other side! On that note it's time once again to get out the bling and head on up to Daytona for the 69th annual Bike Week! I'll be posting a ride this Sunday so watch the site for meet-up times and a itinerary and we hope to see you there! 'Til then, Ride Safe! Have a Great Day Bob Kurtz Second Officer - Florida Space Coast Chapter 122 Southern Cruisers Riding Club Website: http://spacecoastscrc.com/ Tuesday, December 8. 2009Toy Run Ride Report and Upcoming Activities
Sunday was a bit cool as the Road Sofa left the barn with a bag of toys for Sunday's Toy Run. Not too bad but definately leather weather! Ray and Donna on the other hand had left a bit earlier than me, heading over from St. Cloud and they surely needed the warm weather gear while Bob and Sandy making the run up from Melbourne Beach also hit the road early enough to need the layers.
The plan was to hook up at the Fabulous 50's diner in Cocoa for a bit of breakfast, then head over to the BP at Peachtree and US 1 to meet two other Southern Cruiser chapters, Krutch and the Palm Coast gang and John, new Harbor City First Officer who was bringing a group up from down south. The Palm Coast group pulled in first, a bit chilly but certainly dressed for the event. They were followed a short time later by John and the Harbor City group. After we all introduced around, we saddled up for the short run over to the mall. John led us over to Forrest Ave, we made the 520 turn, and headed on over to the mall. By now we were about 14 bikes strong and a pretty good showing for the coastie Southern Cruisers! The bikes all started pulling out right on time at noon but it was a bit before the line made it back to us. Once underway, the run on down to Melbourne was about 45 minutes or so and we were pulling in to the BCC campus and Wickham Park about 2:00. The run was very well organized, ABATE of Brevard did another outstanding job, pretty amazing feat when you wrap your head around the fact there was somewhere between 7,000 and 10,000 bikes depending on who was reporting on it. This year's run benefitted the Shriner's hospital in Tampa and local groups like the Brevard Sharing Center and South Brevard Charities. It's always a good feeling to do what you can for those less fortunate and from the looks of things, there's going to be a lot of smiles on those kid's faces come Christmas morning! Stay tuned for upcoming rides, not sure when or where, I'll be out of comission for a few weeks gettin' over more work I'm having done on my outriggers but I think we can hook something up for after the holidays. If anything comes up before, I'll be sure and let you know but if not, you all have a safe and Merry Christmas and an equally safe New Year! Thanks to all who've come out and cruised the highways and byways with us, It's been a great year and there will surely be more to follow next year! 'Till then, Ride Safe! Steve Rasin' Kane SCRC FL Space Coast Chapter 122 First Officer Wednesday, December 2. 2009This Week's Ride - Sun. Dec. 6th - Toys For Tots - Merritt Square Mall
Hey y'all! It's time once again for the largest motorcycle rally in the county! Check out the events page for the flyer! Not only do we get to cruise with 1000's of our fellow motorcycle enthusiasts on what will hopefully be a beautiful day but we also get the honor of helping our local US Marines ensure toys for Christmas for local underprivileged children! How cool is that!
If you want to hook up for breakfast Sun. morning, meet at the Fabulous 50's Diner, 1120 Clearlake Road in Cocoa at 9:00 for breakfast. Marilyn, the FO from Palm Coast emailed and said they will be coming down to meet up with the Harbor City Chapter at the BP, Peachtree and US1 in Cocoa so we can head over, hook up, and cruise from there. Hope to see you there! Steve Raisin' Kane Space Coast FO |
